Day 1 » UK/Rovaniemi

Fly out to Rovaniemi in the Finnish north where a shared transfer will bring you to your delightful log-cabin home. All timber beams and roaring fires, it’s an idyllic contrast to the icy wilderness outside. This being Finland, it even features a private sauna. You’ll also have some time to make use of the next-door ski centre, or try out the toboggans provided in each cabins. You’ll then enjoy a taste of hearty Lappish cuisine with the first of your included dinners.

Day 2 » Rovaniemi

After a leisurely breakfast, you will enjoy one of the region’s most iconic activities – husky sledding. Departing from a nearby farm, you’ll get to meet the dogs and admire their boundless energy before striking out into the wilderness. Driving two per team, you’ll have the chance to have a go at mushing yourself; routes are tailored to the weather conditions and individual abilities. There’s also plenty of opportunity to just stop and take in the beauty of the wintry landscapes, its silence interrupted only by the enthusiastic yelp of the dogs. At the end of the tour, at an extra cost, there's the option to remain in Rovaniemi for a few hours. Perhaps take in its excellent, and educational, Arktikum Science Museum, where exhibits showcase Finnish Lapland's unique natural world, and the customs and history of the people that call it home.

Day 3 » Rovaniemi

We have saved the best til last. Today you’ll head out to meet Santa at a hidden retreat in the snow-dusted woods. A short bus ride brings you to meet a Reindeer Herder, the Mother of the Woods, the Forest Queen, and – of course – Santa Claus, tucked away in a secret wooden house. While you're here, get into the Christmas spirit as you bake gingerbread cookies, take a magical reindeer sleigh ride, go mini snowmobiling and more. And when it's time to meet the man in red, you'll have plenty of time to take photos and let the children unwrap a very special gift. In the evening, for an extra cost, perhaps head out on a Northern Lights tour, joining an expert guide who’ll work out the ideal spot – based on up-to-the-minute forecasts – to catch the aurora. Keep warm with hot drinks and a traditional Lappish picnic while, luck-permitting, the inky skies fill with sweeping greens and dancing reds. Alternatively, relax at the hotel with your included dinner at the Royal Reindeer.

Day 4 » Depart Rovaniemi

Following your last breakfast, make the 15 minutes’ transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Ounasvaaran Lakituvat

Rovaniemi plays host to all manner of wintertime adventures, from reindeer safaris and husky-sled adventures to snowmobiling, snowshoeing and Northern Lights excursions. And, toboggans are included with the rooms, perfect for some good old-fashioned family fun. You're also right on St Nick’s doorstep, and visits to his winter village, complete with elven helpers and even an official post office, make for a truly magical experience. What’s more, with the Ounasvaara recreational area close by, you'll have direct access to 10 ski slopes and some 200 kilometres of cross-country trails. And, if you’re visiting in summer, there’s plenty to keep you entertained with berry picking, Fat Biking and even Arctic survival days.




Rovaniemi is the capital of Finnish Lapland. It’s a small, compact city that comes with a real buzz of modern shopping malls, lively bars and restaurants serving up everything from traditional cooking to French cuisine. It’s also got the rather big draw of having Santa Claus on hand – not to mention Arctic wilderness that’s perfect for snowsports and sleigh rides. ​ It’s Christmas all year round at Santa Claus Village, about 8 kilometres north of Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle. It’s a novelty to send greetings from the Post Office here, and there’s the chance to learn about the history of Christmas traditions.
