"Ranua is such a wonderful choice for a family holiday! I love the wonderful modern apartments here and with the tailor made trip you can choose from a great range of fun activities. The husky safaris are great fun here but so are the evening excursion and snowmobiles! Your kids will love being able to go to the wildlife park too and meeting the polar bears. Simply magical!" 4 night itinerary

Day 1

Arrival, Transfer & Welcome

Once you arrive at the airport, you will be transferred directly to your accommodation, which will take around one hour. You'll be travelling through Northern Lights territory on your way to Ranua, so don't forget to keep an eye on the sky.

As you will be arriving after the main restaurant has closed this evening, you will be provided with a chilled platter on arrival which you can enjoy as you settle in to your apartment. You'll then want to get a good night's sleep so that you are fully rested ahead of tomorrow's adventures.

Included meals:  Dinner

Day 2

Ranua Wildlife Park and Husky Safari

This morning, you will be provided with your cold weather clothing and will enjoy breakfast in the restaurant. Then, your guided tour of Ranua Wildlife Park will begin. You can admire the animals in their spacious enclosures, each of which has been carefully designed to match their natural habitats as closely possible. Your guide will tell you all about the animals, and you may even have the chance to feed some of the smaller inhabitants.

You will then return to your apartment before having the chance to meet some more furry friends – huskies! Back at the Wildlife Park, the huskies will be excitedly awaiting your arrival, barking impatiently, eager to start the husky ride.

Adults will be given a full overview and safety briefing regarding how to drive the sleigh, before you set off, two people per sled, into the shimmering white wilderness. You will drive for around twenty to thirty minutes, covering approximately 5km in distance. Generally, those aged 15 and over can drive a team. The guides, however, must put clients’ safety first and therefore this decision is completely at their discretion. Children will otherwise travel in the sleds.

Following the safari, the huskies will be much calmer after their exercise and they’ll be far more likely to sit still for those all-important photos.

Dinner will be served in the main restaurant this evening.

Included meals:  Breakfast & Dinner

Day 3

Meeting the Polar Bears, Reindeer Sleigh Ride and
Northern Lights Snowshoeing

This morning, you will get up bright and early, ready to meet the polar bears!

At approximately 8 am, you will go to their enclosure and be able to view the polar bears from the other side of the fence. Your guide will give you lots of information about this beautiful animals. The activity will last for around 45 minutes, followed by a free morning.

Amongst the extras you could add you could find yourself speeding across the fells on a snowmobile safari to the impressive Snow Village, to admire the magical ice sculptures and igloos. Or, why not strap on some skis and head out for a cross-country skiing lesson? The choice is yours.

Later this afternoon, your next animal activity will begin, as you meet the Wildlife Park’s reindeer! This is the perfect activity following Christmas, as the reindeer are winding down from a very busy season of helping Father Christmas with his deliveries. You will sit in your cosy sleigh and be pulled along on a relaxing ride through the silent, tranquil surroundings - you may spot some wildlife along the way, along with plenty of snow-covered, wintry flora. You will cover around 3km in your sleigh, and the activity will last for approximately 40 minutes in total.

After dinner this evening you will set out on a Northern Lights hunt on foot, as you strap on your snowshoes. Snowshoes allow you to walk over thick blankets of untouched snow in the remotest parts of Ranua’s wilderness. They will certainly come in handy as the guide will take you away from the light pollution of the hotel and out into the night, as you take a peaceful walk through the darkness.

You can admire the sparkling stars in the sky above and, hopefully, the Northern Lights will shimmer and dance above you. Overall, this activity will last for around two and a half hours, and your guide will bring hot drinks for you to enjoy.

Included meals:  Breakfast & Dinner

Day 4

Free Day and New Year Celebrations

Today we have left free for you to spend your final day in Lapland however you wish. As you have unlimited visits to the wildlife park during your holiday you could always go and visit your favourite animals again or alternatively you could just enjoy the wonderful snow and do some sledging and snowball fights! By now you will be very familiar with the sauna in your apartment to warm up afterwards too.

Depending on availability it may be possible to book some additional activities. At this peak time, we recommend doing this in advance to guarantee the availability. Our travel experts will be happy to assist you or the local reception team once you have arrived at Ranua.

This is your final night, but it also just happens to be New Year's Eve and so you are in for a real treat this evening.

Firstly, you will enjoy a delicious Gala Dinner, and adults will receive a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. Father Christmas is due to make a special appearance at dinner tonight, so keep your eyes peeled for the man in red.

After you have eaten, you will make your way outside, ready for a fireworks display, you can gather with your family and admire the show. Once the display is over, you will all make your way to a traditional Finnish hut that sits near the restaurant, ready to take part in a melting tin activity. Melting tin is a longstanding New Year tradition in Finland, whereby everyone receives a small piece of tin, usually cast in the shape of a horseshoe. The horseshoe is melted, then the liquid metal is quickly poured into cold water, making it harden. The new shape of your tin will predict your future for the coming year!
