Pre-Christmas Itinerary

Day 1

UK to Inari

Flying out to the depths of Finnish Lapland, an included transfer will see you to your delightful accommodation – your very own log cabin. You’ll settle in by the fire to enjoy the cosiness of it all, along with views of either Lake Inari or River Nukkumajoki. You’ll also begin your menu of full-board dining with dinner at the restaurant, enjoying hearty regional favourites informed by local produce. Think fresh fish and sautéed reindeer. As with each night, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the Northern Lights, making use of your complimentary Arctic-thermal clothing.

Stay - Wilderness Hotel, Inari

Meals - Dinner

Day 2

Reindeer Sled, Snowmobiling & Father Christmas

After breakfast, it’s time to start your programme of included touring with a visit to a nearby reindeer farm. Here, you’ll meet the herders (and the adorable creatures themselves) to learn about the local Samí culture, before you’re treated to a magical reindeer sledge ride. Then, after lunch, it’s time to try snowmobiling, exploring the surrounding wilderness on a network of snow-clad trails. However, it’s perhaps Santa’s private visit this evening that will linger longest in your family’s memory. The man himself will come to your log cabin, bringing with him presents and plenty of festive cheer.

Day 3

Husky Sledding, winter fun & Aurora Hunting with an Elf

Today begins with a husky safari through the surrounding Lapland remotes. After meeting the oh-so-excitable dogs, you’ll be taught how to handle the sled before mushing out into the countryside. Then, after lunch, you’ll have some free time to enjoy the wintery fun, making complimentary use of the toboggans, kick sleds and craft workshop. This evening is then given over to a special aurora hunt. Led by a resident elf, your family will be brought out along a candlelit path into the forest, searching for a hidden treasure – a small present. It all finishes around a campfire, toasting marshmallows and looking out for the Northern Lights.

Accommodation Details

Wilderness Hotel, Inari

Alongside its chic cousin Wilderness Boutique Hotel Nangu, this stunning Lapland lodge strikes the perfect balance between cosy comfort and wilderness experience. As such, its spectacular views over remote Lake Inari in the depths of Finnish Lapland are taken in by a collection of delightful accommodation. The log cabins and Aurora Cabin domes are particular highlights. What’s more, although you’ll be ideally poised for the Northern Lights and a full spread of winter activities, it’s all just a short flight away.

EAT

Returning in from the wilds, you’ll be happy to hear both hunger and tastebuds are well catered for at Inari’s restaurant. Here, Lappish delicacies are served up to panoramic views over Lake Inari, invited in by picture windows. Expect menus to follow the seasons, with a focus on freshness and high quality whether you’re indulging with salmon delicacies or tucking into hearty stews. Breakfasts and lunch are buffet style, while dinners have a table service. Lastly, for a special occasion, consider one of the celebration packages or simply indulge with a cocktail at the bar.

STAY

Although maintaining a considered sense of intimacy, one of Inari’s biggest draws is its range of accommodation, allowing its guests to experience many of Scandinavia’s hotel highlights. The Aurora Cabins are an obvious favourite, where sweeping glass domes offer a front-row seat for the Northern Lights. The glass is even heated to keep your views pristine throughout the night, while timber cladding adds a more traditional dimension. But, for the full experience, book onto one of the log cabins, where exposed timber, comfy armchairs and roaring fireplaces are set to pretty lake views. There’s even an en suite sauna. Alternatively, the Wilderness Rooms offer a taste of the same rustic charm at an excellent price point.

DO

This being Finnish Lapland, it’s all about the great outdoors. Unsurprisingly, it’s the Northern Lights that often get the most attention, with their ethereal sweeps showcased at Inari on everything from snowmobile safaris to snowshoeing trips and sledge rides out to fireside camps. Then, during the day, explore with ice-fishing excursions, husky dogsledding and snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. There’s also the chance to meet the reindeer at a nearby farm and get a taste of the local culture with a private dinner hosted by a local Sami. Otherwise, visit over the summer months for a full range of fair-weather fun.
