Itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome to Aurora Country

Your Northern Lights adventure begins when we pick you up directly from Ivalo Airport and transfer you into the Lappish wilderness, through pristine snow encrusted pine forest and snowy fells until we reach the Northern Lights Village.

Here, you’ll be shown to your private cabin. This stylish, elegant space will provide you with your base for the experience, and offers beautifully cosy warmth against the Arctic weather outside.

And of course, the glass roof means that you’ll have unobstructed views of the spectacular night sky and the jaw-dropping Northern Lights, all from the comfort of your bed.

After a hearty dinner, it’s time for your first expedition to spot the Northern Lights. Led by locals who are experts in spotting the natural phenomenon, you’ll venture into the wilderness by heighted sleigh and take in the night skies in comfort.

Day 2 - Husky Rides

After another hearty breakfast, set out on a husky ride, swishing through the silent, snow-covered forest on your own private sleigh.

Meet these beautiful, energetic dogs that will take you exploring through the glistening Lapland wilderness, on a safari you are sure never to forget.

After dinner, you’ll head out on another expedition, this time on a heated sleigh, to see if you can catch another glimpse of the stunning northern lights.

Day 3 - Searching for Santa

After breakfast, it is time for a magical experience for the children (large and small ) as you go in search of Santa in his own enchanted forest.

Day 4 - Spa day!

Get ready for a day or relaxation and rejuvenation as you take advantage of the sauna, ice pool, and hot tub in your winter wonderland!

Day 5 - Reindeer Express and cross country skiing lesson

Sit down into the sleigh and signal the reindeer – and hold on! You’ll get to see how Laplanders used to move around before snowmobiles arrived in the northern wilderness. Driving a reindeer sleigh through the wintry forest is an experience to remember!

Next you get to try out cross country skiing – another traditional way to get around through the winter carpets – however you’re doing the rewarding work.

Day 6 - Farewell

Your final morning in the Northern Lights Village. Wake up at whatever leisurely time you like (check-out isn’t until 12 noon), and enjoy a final breakfast by a log fire as you reflect on the wonderful adventure you’ve had with us.

We’ll transfer you back to the airport, and look forward to maybe seeing you again!

Importantly for duvet-based Aurora hunting, a timer switch can be used to heat the glass roof should your view be obscured by snowfall. It takes approximately 5-10 minutes to heat and melt the snow so there’s no need to go and sweep the roof in your pyjamas!

Cabins are not cleaned between arrival and departure unless requested from reception. Additionally, towels can be exchanged at reception if required.

Wi-Fi is only available at the onsite restaurant.

Resort

Saariselka-screenshot.png

Saariselka

Located in the wild mystical north of Lapland, close to Russia and just a few hours from the Arctic Ocean, Saariselkä is an exceptionally friendly uncommercialised resort with a unique frontier atmosphere. With magnificent Arctic wilderness scenery just on the doorstep, it makes an ideal resort for an all-round winter wonderland adventure. The skies are often a deep hue of pink and purple, the pine trees heavily laden with snow, and being so far north there is a good possibility of seeing the Northern Lights too.
